Rules
1.) Respect other peoples choice of instrument. Dont tell people there guitars suck, are crap etc. Not everyone can afford Gibsons etc and one mans junk is another mans treasure. If opinion is asked for back up your claims with reasoning.
2.) The 'which guitar' problem... While we are happy to offer our help when people are buying guitars we cannot decide for you. Ask specific questions on specific guitars and give details on what music you like and what features you think you will require from your guitar.
3.) Dont clutter the forum with similar threads, multiple threads on the same guitar are not allowed.
4.) Please dont 'bump' threads up the main page, if no one has replied it means they dont know the answer.
6.) Please don't ask how to replicate the tones of other guitarists or advice on what songs you should learn. There's no way that we can give you good advice in these areas because we don't know you. We don't know how well you play. We don't know what styles you play. We don't know how you learn etc.
7.) No repeat threads on the same brands over and over again.
Frequently asked questions
1. What guitar should I buy?
WE DONT KNOW!
No one can decide that for you, so I suggest you go to a guitarshop and try some guitarsout! Take the one that is within your budget, the one you like the sound of, the one that
feels good in your hands and makes you sound/play better than you actually are.
2. Are guitar lessons worth it?
Depends do you think they will help you?
3. Are x pickups any good? Should I change my pickups?
In general, it's not advised that you change your pickups unless you know exactly what you're doing and you have a very good reason for doing it.
4. Squier or Fender
PLEASE stop asking us... play them listen to the sound then you decide.
5. How do I replicate the tone of so and so ?
Simple. You go out and buy all the same equipment. The same amps. The same guitars. The same f/x pedals. Then you go to the exact same recording studio that they were in. In the exact same performance rooms. You get the same producer and mixer. You use the same mics. The same recording and mixing equipment.
You will have their tone down exactly. Basically don’t ask, these kind of threads are banned, remember guys, it’s all in the fingers.
6. What is this knob, lever, button on my guitar called?
See below for a brief overview of the workings of the two most popular guitar styles.
7.Whats the difference between single coil and humbuckers/active and passive pickups?
Post in the forum to ask.
8. What does my truss rod do and how can I adjust it?
The truss rod is a very important component of your guitar; maladjustment can seriously affect the playability of your guitar. If you are at all unsure then do not attempt adjustment yourself but seek advice from a professional. Here’s another excellent article covering truss rod adjustment should you feel confident attempting it yourself.
9. How do I go about changing pickups??
This is another subject id approach with caution, if your unsure refer to a professional, mistakes can ruin your guitar.
